Unofficial Guide to Resin
Q: What is Resin ?
A: Resin which is also known as garage kits, are normally unpainted and require more work like sanding and removing of nubs due to the inherent properties of the manufacturing process. While comparably more expensive compared to plastic kits, they offer an unparalleled level of detail for the dedicated and experienced model builder.
Resin parts generally comes in one color and requires painting to complete the model unlike Bandai Gundam kits which comes pre-colored and requires no painting to complete. In order to glue the parts together, super glue or special resin glues are used, cement that is used for bandai plastic kits cannot be used on resin kits.
Q: Why are there so many different companies producing the same kit?
A: Some companies like B-Club(branch under Bandai), Neograde, VP are so called the originals, in which they are the ones who actually design the kit. Companies like G-System-Best, Super-G are called the recasters, they actually take the originals and cast the kit themselves.
So why do we prefer to buy from the recasters, simple reason will be affordability. The original can sometimes cost up to SGD 400 dollars but the recasters may be selling them for only less than SGD 200.
Recasters like Super-G, G-System-Best are quite good in their recasting skills and have earned themselves quite a reputation.
Q: I see that some resin kits are called conversion kits and some are full kits, what are the difference ?
A: The term conversion kit means that the resin parts in the kit are only outer parts to be fitted onto the specific inner frame of a Master-Grade kit in order to archieve the same model as shown in the picture. For conversion kits, i would normally indicate which inner frame required in the item desctiption of that item. For more enquires, you can always email us.
Full kits are simply kits that do not require any inner frames to complete the model shown in the picture, everything that is needed is already included in the kit itself. Therefore more people try to go for full kits as there is no need to spend money on another expensive MG kit in order to complete the model.
Q: What do i do when i encounter broken or missing parts ?
A: As companies like Super-G and G-System-Best are small companies, quality check process may not be as strigent as Bandai, therefore there will be tendency of broken or missing parts, but rest assured, we can always request the part from our suppliers.
